“Working in a dog boarding, daycare, and grooming facility has been one of the most rewarding experiences I have had throughout my career as a Pet Stylist. Being able to work closely with dogs every day, and be part of a team focused on the care and wellbeing of animals made my time at Inn the Doghouse both professionally and personally fulfilling.

As a Pet Stylist, my responsibilities included bathing, all types of styles including standard breed, communicating with pet owners about their dogs’ needs, and helping recommend additional services that would improve the health, comfort, and overall grooming experience for each pet. The work environment encouraged teamwork, customer care, and individualized attention to every dog that came into the salon.

Another aspect of my experience that stood out to me was the owner’s encouragement toward continued education and professional growth. Employees are given opportunities to further their grooming education, including being offered the chance to attend grooming trade shows and industry events to expand their knowledge, improve their skills, and stay updated on current grooming techniques and products.

One thing I believe is important for future applicants to understand is the pay structure at Inn the Doghouse. The salon does not operate on a traditional 50% commission-based grooming model. Instead, employees are paid an hourly wage along with a 20–30% incentive commission based on productivity. This incentive was influenced by factors such as the number of dogs scheduled, efficiency, and additional grooming or wellness services added to appointments that benefited the dogs and enhanced the clients’ experience.” - Tori R.

“8 years ago Inn the Doghouse became my home away from home. I was hired as a daycare attendant and never thought I would be where I am today.  Whitney Callahan, the owner of Inn the Doghouse, always believed in me and played a huge part in helping me to reach my goals.

Post covid our grooming department was quite a bit behind having been closed while the state was in quarantine. I stepped in as a bather and fell in love with the position.  Later on, Whitney enrolled me in grooming school so I could further my education in dog grooming. Grooming has taught me confidence, discipline and compassion. This career has helped me grow personally and professionally, and I am grateful for how much it continues to teach me.

Inn the Doghouse has consistently pushed me to improve my skills, build confidence in my work and take on new challenges that helped me become better at what I do. Because of their support and mentorship, I’ve been able to develop stronger communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills while continuing to grow within the business. Having a leader who invests in their team makes a huge difference and I will always be grateful for the opportunities and encouragement they have provided along the way.  I am thankful to work in a place where hard work is recognized and where I genuinely enjoy coming to work each day.” - Megan K.
